OUR STORY
Why did we buy a hotel in Costa Rica?
When we first travelled to Costa Rica in January 2024, something about the country touched us immediately.
The lush nature, the warmth of its people, the tropical rhythm of life… it all felt wonderfully different,
yet strangely familiar.
We had been dreaming of finding a second home, somewhere surrounded by nature and far away from the rush of everyday life. Sometimes life has its own plans, and before we knew it,
La Rana de Cahuita became ours on 1 January 2025.
Choosing the Caribbean coast felt completely natural to us. We fell in love with its relaxed atmosphere, tropical climate, endless greenery, beautiful beaches and colourful communities.
Life here moves at a gentler pace.
You wake up to birdsong and howler monkeys, tropical rain becomes part of the adventure, and there is always something new to discover.
We are Bart and Pascale, originally from Belgium, and for now we divide our time between Belgium and Costa Rica. Together with our wonderful local team, we are shaping La Rana into the place we believe it is meant to be: a peaceful boutique jungle lodge where genuine hospitality, personal attention and respect for nature come together.
In 2026, La Rana celebrates its tenth anniversary—something we are incredibly proud of.
Over the years, the lodge has continued to grow and evolve. Our first major renovation has been completed, a new jungle home has joined the La Rana family, and we still have many dreams for the future.
Our team is at the heart of La Rana.
They are always happy to help, answer your questions and share their favorite local tips.
Whether you would like to walk through Cahuita National Park with a guide, discover the colorful underwater world on a snorkeling tour or learn how local cacao is transformed into chocolate, we will gladly help you arrange an unforgettable Caribbean experience.
La Rana is also home to our very sweet dog and a small family of chickens.
Because they live freely on the property, we are unable to welcome other pets.
Most of all, we hope La Rana will feel like more than simply a place to stay.
We hope it becomes a peaceful home in the jungle — a place where you can slow down, reconnect and create warm memories that stay with you long after you leave.

WATER
Water — every drop matters
Water keeps our tropical surroundings alive, and we believe in using it with care.
At La Rana, we collect water in tanks for reuse and use biodegradable cleaning products. We also make small, thoughtful choices every day to reduce water consumption.
We invite our guests to join us: being mindful of shower time and reusing towels when possible helps us save water and reduce unnecessary washing.

We believe caring for the earth means doing what we can to help limit global warming.
At La Rana, we aim to make thoughtful choices, use resources carefully and keep looking for ways to reduce our impact.

The tropical garden is part of what makes La Rana feel like home, and we care for it with respect.
We avoid products that are harmful to the environment and take a thoughtful approach to maintaining the greenery around us.
Rather than clearing vegetation unnecessarily, we prune carefully and arrange regular care from a tree specialist to help our trees stay healthy and in good condition.
