Come home to calm.
Coastal rainforest, beautiful beaches and a rich mix of cultures — there is plenty to discover around La Rana.
Spend your days following a jungle trail, tasting Caribbean flavours or finding your favourite place beside the sea. Then return to the greenery of your own jungle home, with time to unwind.
Our team is happy to share local tips and help you arrange an experience that suits your pace.

01 · CAHUITA & ITS NATIONAL PARK
Where the jungle meets the sea
Cahuita invites you to slow down.
Explore the village, stop for something delicious and discover the national park, where coastal forest meets white sand and the Caribbean Sea.
Follow the trails and take time to look around. Sloths resting in the trees, monkeys moving through the canopy and iguanas beside the path are among the wildlife you may encounter. A local guide can help you notice the smaller details that are easy to miss.
Beyond the shore, Cahuita’s coral reef shelters colourful marine life. A guided snorkelling excursion offers another way to discover the park, when sea conditions allow.
Combine a morning in nature with lunch in the village, then return to La Rana for a quiet afternoon by the pool.
Our team can help you arrange a guided park walk or snorkelling tour.

02 · BEACHES IN CAHUITA
Find your own stretch of Caribbean coast
Dark sand, pale shores and tropical greenery — the beaches around Cahuita each have their own character.
Playa Grande — nature, uninterrupted
Close to La Rana, Playa Grande offers a quieter, wilder beach experience. A short walk through the jungle brings you to an untouched stretch of coastline, where the trees give way to sand and open sea.
There are no beach bars or facilities here — just nature, the sound of the waves and space to slow down. Several paths from the road lead through the greenery to the beach, making the journey part of the experience.
A beautiful choice for those who love unspoiled surroundings and quiet moments away from the bustle. Bring what you need, leave nothing behind and enjoy the coast in its simplest form.
Playa Negra — closer to Cahuita center
Take a walk along the shore, settle down with a book or simply watch the waves roll in. For those who enjoy a little more activity, surfing brings a different way to experience the Caribbean coast.
Beach bars and restaurants nearby make it easy to pause for lunch or a refreshing drink. There is also a lovely coffee spot — perfect for a slow morning before heading to the sand.
Whether you come for the waves, a good coffee or a few quiet hours beside the sea, Playa Negra invites you to enjoy the coast at your own pace.
Playa Blanca — where the forest meets the sea
Inside Cahuita National Park, Playa Blanca brings white sand, tropical greenery and the Caribbean Sea together in a truly beautiful setting.
As you follow the coastal trail, take time to enjoy more than the walk itself. Bring your beach towels and leave room in your day to settle onto the sand, listen to the waves and take in the view.
Combine a morning exploring the forest and looking for wildlife with a leisurely break beside the sea. The contrast between the lush trees and the pale shoreline makes this a special place to pause.
Bring plenty of drinking water in a reusable bottle, as single-use plastics, including disposable plastic bottles, are not allowed in the park. Pack your beach essentials and a little extra time — Playa Blanca is a place to linger.
A little tip from La Rana: when you leave through the Cahuita village entrance, look to your right for a delicious ice cream stop. A lovely way to finish your day of forest trails and Caribbean beach time.
Outside Cahuita ...
Puerto Vargas offers another beautiful stretch of shoreline to discover as part of your park visit.
Further along the coast, explore the beaches around Puerto Viejo, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva and Manzanillo. Take your time, stop along the way and enjoy the changing scenery.
Sea conditions vary from day to day. Ask our team for local advice before heading out, especially if you plan to swim, surf, snorkel.
A beach morning, a leisurely lunch and a peaceful return to La Rana — sometimes that is all a day needs.

03 · CARIBBEAN CULTURE
Get to know the coast through its people and flavours
Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean has a character all its own, shaped by Afro-Caribbean heritage, Indigenous communities and the people who call this coast home.
Discover it through a meal, a conversation or the music drifting from a local restaurant. Try Caribbean rice and beans prepared with coconut milk, a warming bowl of rondón or a freshly baked patí.
Cahuita offers a relaxed village atmosphere, while Puerto Viejo brings a livelier mix of places to eat, small shops and music.
For a different perspective, a locally hosted cacao experience offers the chance to learn how chocolate is made. Community-led visits can also introduce you to Bribri traditions and cacao’s place in local life.
Let curiosity guide you, support local businesses and leave room for the unexpected.
Our team will gladly help you find a local experience to remember.

04 · WILD NATURE
Slow down. Look closer.
Around La Rana, nature is part of everyday life. Birdsong fills the mornings, howler monkeys announce themselves from the trees and tropical rain brings the garden to life.
Sometimes the most memorable moment happens before you even leave the property. Look up, listen and take your time — the jungle reveals more when you move slowly.
Further afield, Cahuita National Park and the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge offer opportunities to explore coastal forest and discover the region’s remarkable biodiversity.
A guided nature walk can help you recognise birds, spot a well-hidden sloth and understand more about the plants and animals around you.
Every encounter is different. Observe wildlife from a respectful distance, leave animals undisturbed and enjoy the privilege of being in their home.
Then return to yours, surrounded by the green of La Rana.
